Devlog #1 — Welcome to Barrelstorm

Hey folks — Welcome to the first devlog for my indie tank combat game, Barrelstorm!

This is a chaotic, stylized top-down tank brawler where you:

Drive modular tanks (chassis + turret + cosmetics)

Blow up enemy swarms and AI-controlled turrets

Collect medals and gold to upgrade in your garage

Smash through destructible terrain in bite-sized, tactical missions

💣 What It Was (Multiplayer)

I originally planned Barrelstorm as a full multiplayer game… but let’s be real — I’m one dev with a day job and limited sanity. So instead of stretching myself thin building netcode, I’m going all-in on local chaos, bots, and progression.

The game will feel like multiplayer — but it’s you vs bots with ridiculous names like “BigRichardChris3inch” and “TTV_SweatGoblin.”

🛠️ What I’m Working on Now Tiled integration: yup gonna use tiled for neat tiles. Different tanks: 95% of my tanks are still in pencil-on-paper.

What to expect:

Garage system: Before each mission, you’ll visit your garage and pick a tank or upgrade one or buy new one.

Economy: You’ll earn medals + gold by completing objectives. Spend them between missions.

Modular tank system: Tracks, turrets, chassis, cosmetics — all swappable (probably).

Bot personalities (probably): Every bot has quirks. Some are tryhards. Some are idiots.

🔜 Coming Soon

First playable demo with 2–3 stages

Early tank upgrade paths

AI-controlled turrets and “fake players” in local deathmatch
